this past big winner at the weekend box office the woman king is a rare sight in the Hollywood landscape, as a group of black women as ferocious action warriors is not a common story told by Hollywood. Thank goodness it exists, because the Gina Prince-Bythewood epic is a marvel to behold. The only film that comes to our mind that is approaching is 2018. black Panther, where Wakanda’s Dora Milaje was presented. Both films also include an overlay of a stunt team, but the woman kingThe combat choreographer shared the differences between the projects.

In his words:

It was completely separate and different from [Black Panther], so I was very proud to be a part of this project because it was based on historical facts and history and just tough 19th century women. And before that, it really existed. So, you know, my fighting style has nothing to do with Panther and I’ve brought what I’ve learned over the course of my life and Danny. [Hernandez] and also Johnny Gao to this movie which was his genre.

While on the outside it may look like a similar project black Panther could have helped prepare the doppelganger for the woman king, as he shared, it was a completely different project with new challenges and fighting techniques. Stevens continued:

Many of us came with different backgrounds to the main doubles team. South African artists were trained in South Africa even before we arrived. Danny Hernandez, the stunt coordinator, also has his own fighting style, which is similar to mine because we are in the same martial arts line. Johnny Gao, the fight coordinator, also arrived with a specific skill, Wushu a long time ago. Danny and I do a lot of Kali … The South African coordinators did a lot of Jiu Jitsu and Judo, so we combined a lot of different styles and basically figured out what the actors could do and developed them. something that showed his strengths.

Danny Hernandez has been the fight coordinator during the recent Avengers films, as well as being part of it black Pantherand Johnny Gao was one of those tpp teams. when the woman king was in production, the Marvel stunt team got together, but they implemented a combination of each of their fighting styles for the historical epic to make it something different and special.

something important know the film directed by Viola Davis It is based on a unit of royal warriors called Agojie, or Dahomey Amazons, which existed from 1600 to 1904 to protect a kingdom in West Africa. While the stunt team weren’t necessarily able to copy the fighting techniques used by real warriors throughout history, they combined their knowledge of fighting styles to create what you see on the big screen.
