The Blues Brothers have been around since John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd created the original sketch for Saturday night live in 1976. Since then, many comedic actors and musicians have appeared such as the Blues Brother in one form or another, with Dan Aykroyd the only constant presence in the band and John’s brother Jim Belushi a lifelong show mainstay . there was no official Blues Brothers 1998 movie blues brothers 2000, and while nothing is technically in the works, that hasn’t stopped Dan Aykroyd from pitching ideas for the future of the franchise. And oh man, some of them are definitely “out there”.

This includes Dan Aykroyd, as the two tour regularly as famous brothers. Naturally, he was curious whether or not they were discussing the Blues Brothers’ potential return to the big screen, and Belushi admitted that Aykroyd was always having new potential ideas:
[Dan Aykroyd] actually, you know, he always has ideas. I mean, he’s got this whole thing of, you know, ‘I met Jake’s brother in Albania, you know. I found out there was another brother, a Blues Brother. And I go to Albania, find it and take it out. Do not speak English. I mean, he has all kinds of ideas. The Blues Sisters, they want to do one with the Blues Brothers but Blues Sisters. You know, he’s a creative son of a gun.
Is it too early to wonder who will play the Blues Sisters and their Albanian brother? While the ideas seem a bit silly, I also feel like they could totally work. Aykroyd has never been shy about reviving his old franchises, having even struggled for potential ghost hunters prequel and is below for the idea of a live tv show . It doesn’t matter, because Jim Belushi seems pretty sure the brothers’ time in movies is over. As he said:
Oh no no I don’t think that movie was, I think Blues Brothers 2000 was.
The history of the Blues Brothers is quite complicated. They are definitely a real band, even if depicted as fictional characters, and Jim Belushi has never appeared in the movies. it had to be inside blues brothers 2000, but there was a conflict with his total security TV deal with ABC. She initially did not replace her late brother John as Joliet, instead playing a new brother, Zee Blues. John isn’t the only Blues Brother to lose in the band’s 47-year history, as he is Bassist Donald Duck Dunn dies at 70 and Dan’s brother Peter Aykroyd, who voiced the character of Elwood The Blues Brothers animated series, he passed away in 2021. The ways the Blues Brothers connect Belushi growing goes far beyond an occasional appearance by Aykroyd, as he and Jim Belushi are business partners in a brand of cannabis products called Blues Brothers. Belushi even calls his work on the the cannabis industry a “mission from God” referencing the famous Blues Brothers quote, as he believes access to this drug could have changed his brother John’s untimely fate. He takes this mission seriously and even once begs Chris Farley in an effort to keep him from ending up like his famous brother.
