For the first half of Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Ashlei Sharpe’s Sidney La Forge Chestnut was the only member of the La Forge family aboard the USS Titan, working at the helm when our protagonists first faced the Shapeshifter known as Vadic and his forces. Next, Episode 6, titled “The Bounty,” introduced his father, Geordi, and sister, Alandra, the latter played by LeVar Burton’s real-life daughter, Mica Burton. After The La Forge Family Reunion was finally shown to Paramount+ subscribers, Chestnut chatted with Gossipify about what it was like shooting his first scene with the The next generation alum, and how he formed a real “brotherhood” with the woman who plays his on-screen sister.
Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut has told us earlier about how she was made to feel like part of the Burton family, but since we finally got to see Sidney and Geordi together I was curious what it was like shooting this first scene. . Here’s what the actress told me when I interviewed her before the latest episode, “Surrender”:
It was crazy, just because I’m also a LeVar Burton fan outside of Star Trek, like Reading Rainbow. Seeing him as a child and no longer being able to work with him. And not just working with him, we had a tense scene in episode 6. So working with him was great.
Many people know LeVar Burton best for playing Geordi La Forge Star Trek: The Next Generationthe next four films and the Traveler episode “Timeless”, but there is also a generation (excuse the choice of word) who remember him fondly for his many years of animation read the rainbow. While combined with star Trek It was enough for her that Chestnut was blown away the moment she started working with him. Conversely, however, Sidney and Geordi’s relationship is quite strained when picardy Season 3 is happening, mostly because the former didn’t go through the engineering stages of the latter to become a racer.
Alandra La Forge, on the other hand, is very close to her father as evidenced by her presence by his side when they boarded the ship. All right. We had lunch not long ago. We are still texting. We actually share a brotherhood outside of it which is really sweet. That’s the beauty of Star Trek. Yes, we are family on set, but off set we are always in touch.
With Sidney returning to his father and sister (it is not clear if we will meet his mother later). picardy is over), we also saw her flirting with Ed Speleers’ Jack Crusher, although the two also had a nice action sequence together in episode 7, which shows that they work well together in even a stressful situation. Only two episodes left picardy‘s run, it’s unclear what is in store for Sidney, although like many fans and talent associated with the show, he has expressed interest in doing a spinoff, which has been informally called Star Trek: Legacy. Assuming such a show is greenlit, it could not only mean more meetings with her, but also provide more opportunities for her to develop her family relationships, potentially giving Chestnut more time to work with Mica Burton and/or LeVar Burton.
