For once the series The Simpsons did not predict the future. Contrary to what is claimed by a false montage that has spread throughout the Internet in recent weeks, the American animated series had not advanced the date of Elizabeth II’s death.
Since the announcement of his disappearance, which occurred on September 8 at the age of 96, an image of the satirical program circulates on social networks. We see the Queen of England in the animated version of her, lying in a coffin, next to which is a sign that reads “Elizabeth II, 1926-2022”. This extract, which we saw on TikTok, Twitter, Facebook or even Reddit, had actually been modified.
When one montage hides another
as reported main storiesQuoted by varietythe Queen of England appeared in several episodes of the Simpsons but none have ever represented his death. The place Misbar reports that the image showing the Queen in her coffin was created from…another fake montage taken from the the Simpsons.
A few years ago, the same image circulated on the web. Except instead of the queen, it was Donald Trump’s character who was lying in the coffin. Many Internet users had deduced that the series had predicted the death of the president of the United States, before sites reported that it was a montage.
Internet users had good reason to fall for it, because the cartoon launched by Matt Groening in 1989 was often right. In particular, staging the rise to power of Donald Trump or the takeover of 20th Century Fox, years before these events occur.
