After more than a decade off the small screen, the Rugrats are officially back! Nickelodeon’s iconic and first babies are back in 2021, thanks to the CGI reboot of Paramount+ . The new series has proved popular so far which is why the streamer has renewed it for a second season which kicked off this month. Given its success, you can’t help but wonder if Nick even considered rebooting the OG show’s sequel series, all adults. The studio hasn’t announced anything about it yet, but series allies Tara Strong and EG Daily have shared what they would think of such a project.
For those who don’t remember, the Rugrati The franchise celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2001 with a television special titled “All Grown Up.” The main story of the special episode is set a decade in the future and reimagines adorable little boys as tweens. Ultimately, it would serve as a backdoor driver for all adultswhich debuted on Nick in 2003. The spinoff was mostly well received by fans and would air 55 episodes over five seasons before concluding its run in 2008.
The series would see all of the main cast members from the original series reprise their roles, with EG Daily and Tara Strong returning as Tommy and Dil Pickles, respectively. As a fan, I couldn’t resist mentioning the sequel while chatting with the two actresses promoting the second season of the Paramount+ show. When asked about the possibility of re-voicing their characters’ older counterparts, the two were definitely excited about it. Strong, also known for playing Batgirl. Timmy Turner and the other main characters wouldn’t even care if the show happened sooner rather than later:
We definitely would, and I think there’s room for both shows. I think they can coexist. I mean, if it were up to me, I’d tell Nickelodeon to do both at the same time. Duh, that would be fun. But since we’re just getting started with this, I’m sure they’re focusing on that for now, but I’m sure it’s something they could revisit and we’d all like… None of us wouldn’t say no to an adult [reboot]Sounds like a pretty fun idea to me.
If you’re anything like me, then this feeling is just music to your ears. I honestly don’t believe him Rugrati tracking sometimes gets the credit it deserves. It built solidly on the universe established by its predecessor and told some entertaining (and relatable) stories. Additionally, it fleshed out the main characters, giving each one more distinct personalities. For example, the constantly curious (and formerly bald) Tommy became an aspiring filmmaker with a slight knack for invention as father to him, Stu. And once a cute, smiling kid, Dil has grown into a quirky, well-read kid who’s perhaps the most cerebral of the bunch. all adults It certainly has elements built into it that would make it a fun watch for today’s youth. It would also give EG Daily and their Tara Strong a chance to even the score best moments between Tommy and Dil . While Daily is OK with the idea, she did point to one possible reason Nick might not want to buy into the idea so soon:
I also think they are very careful not to let this new reboot have more [attention].
He’s right, since Nickelodeon and Paramount+ probably don’t want to put all their eggs in one basket. As we have seen in recent years, many studios have put the cart before the horse when it comes to their IP addresses. Fans may just want to sit back and enjoy the stream. Rugrati show now. Though as I do, I’ll always keep hoping that the older versions of Tommy, Chuckie, Angelica and co. will return to our screens one day.
