In a few weeks she will be queen. Camilla Parker-Bowles, who went from royal lover to queen consort to queen, will be crowned next May 6 alongside King Charles. A destiny that Prince Harry attributes to a royal strategy.
in his book alternatePrince Harry recounts how, along with his brother William, they promised their father to receive Camilla “warmly”, on the condition that he promise not to marry her. For the brothers, Camilla has long been “the other woman”, the one who made her mother, Princess Diana, suffer so much. She also hints that by marrying Charles, she Camilla had a long-term goal.
“Shortly after our brief introductions,” he wrote in his memoirs, “she embarked on a long-term operation, entering the campaign for access to the wife and ultimately the Crown.”
Tom Parker Bowles, the son of Camilla -who was married to Andrew Parker Bowles with whom they had two children, Tom and Laura- defended his mother, in a podcast entitled the news agentas seen by Times THURSDAY.
“I do not care what they say”
“I don’t care what they say,” he said. It was not a target. She married the person she loved, that’s what happened.”
In his memoirs, Prince Harry has a particularly hard tooth with his mother-in-law, whom he describes in particular as “dangerous”.
“Weirdly, I even wished Camilla were happy too,” Harry wrote, speaking of Charles and Camilla’s 2005 wedding.
“Perhaps her happiness would make her less dangerous,” he adds treacherously.
Camilla’s rehabilitation in the heart of the British is no longer a secret, it is the work of skilful maneuvers suggested by communication advisers. Because for the country, as for Carlos’s children, Camila has long been “the lover”, the one who caused the failure of Carlos and Diana’s marriage.
During her book’s promotion campaign in January 2023, Prince Harry described her as “the villain” of the story and that her rise had left some in the ground.
Tributes to the Queen
Queen Elizabeth herself took a long time to accept this new daughter-in-law, so different from the previous one. The sovereign herself did not attend Carlos and Camila’s wedding in 2005, and only in February 2022 did she decide that Camila could become “queen consort” when Carlos acceded to the throne.
Camilla and Elizabeth grew to like each other and the queen consort has paid tribute to the sovereign on numerous occasions, noting her praise for the way she has “carved her own role” in a very masculine world.
