Criminal Minds star Joe Mantegna says new streaming season is more disturbing than ever and explains why he’s a dark-toned “lawyer”

It’s been a little over two years since we had to say goodbye to the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit in order to Criminal mindsbut the series returns to Paramount + with a new season, dubbed Criminal minds: evolution. Not only will the new season include some NSFW changes for BAU, it will also see almost all of the characters return to the bullpen and star Joe Mantegna explains how disruptive Season 16 will be.

Criminal minds he is known for his chilling stories, with real suspicions even thought provoking. Of course, Criminal minds: evolution will go even further. while in Paramount + (opens in a new tab)During the new season’s TCA panel, the actors were asked about stories or cases that scared them or gave them nightmares. Joe Mantegna, who plays agent David Rossi, teased how Criminal minds: evolution you will get, even more than the previous 15 seasons:

I think where we go with this, if anything, is going to be like, you know, Evolution – Criminal Minds: Evolution. Yes, if you think you’ve been teased before, we could take it to another level.

It may be creepy, but Mantegna has raised the fact that for him and the rest of the cast it’s all fake, so he doesn’t necessarily have nightmares or freak out. He explains why he prefers the dark tone of the series:

But I’ve always been a fan of our show that brings that realistic aspect to what these real men and women do. Because, you know, many times you hear ‘Oh, how can you …? Don’t have nightmares? Or “Do you mind doing this show?” No. I feel it doesn’t bother me. Because when you say cut, that person who is lying there with the ax on his head picks it up and goes to the craft services and takes a sandwich. The ones I care about are the real men and women from the FBI and other law enforcement agencies around the world who actually have to do it for a living.

With the variety of procedures nowadays, they show the work done by police officers, firefighters, doctors, etc. real life, and that’s what Joe Mantegna loves. Criminal minds:

So I think what I like about our show is that we show it as it is. You know, I grew up in the days when, you know, when you watch a cowboy movie, the guy gets hit and falls, and he was cute. You know? We show it as it is. And I think … I think it’s important. I think we have to show, thank God, that we have men and women who really do this job. And if you really want to see what they are dealing with every day, we give you an overview.

That’s not to say there aren’t a lot of creepy, nightmarish moments on the show, because there certainly are, providing even more support for the men and women who actually work in the FBI. Kirstin Vangsness and Aisha Tyler have very different views on how creepy their co-star is, as they both confessed how much the show scared them and / or their family:

  • “Yes. We did 324 episodes and I’d say 333 bothered me. So this is my grain of salt. Yes.” [Laughter.] -Kirsten Vangsness
  • “Husband, I mean full disclosure, we saw the first two episodes of the show last night, and my husband was like, ‘I think I’m going to have nightmares.'” [Laughter.] -Aisha Tyler

Although almost every episode of the first 15 seasons had a different suspicion, Criminal minds: evolution It will be different. In the new season, the BAU will only work with one unsubscribe case for the whole season and the affected will be played by Friday night lights student Zach Gilford. After the release of the first photos, Joe Mantegna talked about his return to the bullpen and expressed his excitement about working with his co-stars again.

Although not everyone will return for Criminal minds: evolution, fans should still be pretty excited. Plus, it looks like Paget Brewster’s Emily Prentiss will get a new look when she returns to our screens.
