As seen in the Apple TV+ trailer ghost, the film reunites Chris Evans with Ana de Armas. The action comedy centers on a man who falls in love with a woman, and after some no news from him, she discovers that he is a secret agent. Evans has previously worked with De Armas on knives out AND the gray manin which both gave excellent performances. Chemistry like theirs is something most directors would probably want with their leads, and Dexter Fletcher shared some thoughts on how it affected the film.
Whenever the two stars appear together, it seems like they are having a blast. However, some could theoretically argue that it simply plays nice for the cameras. However, this is not the case, thankfully, as explained by Dexter Fletcher. The director appeared in the latest episode of our ReelBlend podcasts and earlier he joked about the connection between the two stars. But when he got serious, he recalled that everyone on set could tell how close the A-listers were:
The truth is, they can’t stand each other. They are like the cat and the dog! They are like oil and water! These two don’t even want to be close! … You are ahead with these two, because they are great friends. And, in fact, almost to the point where they’re sitting in the corner of their chairs, laughing at something random that only they understand and know is hilarious between the two of them. And the rest of us are there, you know, looking a little puzzled. And one of them plays the joke and the other gets it.
Given their previous work and friendship, it makes sense that the producers would be willing to pair the two together. knives out Furthermore, as their manager also explained during the interview, the two are definitely charming together at meetings with the press. Social media posts also give the impression that they enjoyed working on this production. Ana de Armas celebrated her birthday on set From ghost and when they wrapped Chris Evans posted celebratory emojis under the publication of the actress, which marked the end of filming.
However, the two share more than jokes, according to their director. During his interview, he explained that they also respect each other:
[Their bond] bodes well for the project, but they’re also big fans of each other. I think Chris was very enthusiastic [Ana] that it was escalating like that, that people are really excited after Bond, talking about Ballerina. There’s a real need to say, “Oh, she’s going to be that person.” She has these chops. And he still found it hysterically amusing to see him dragging his luggage, falling over himself, swallowing rocks and being quite incompetent in general. And it was a lot of fun too. They are really fans of each other. It seems a bit ‘trivial to say, perhaps, but it is one of the beautiful facts. So I was very lucky.
Believe it or not, Dexter Fletcher almost doesn’t have those particular two in the movie. As he recalled in the same interview, Chris Evans was originally going to be paired with Scarlett Johansson, before she left due to scheduling conflicts. Apparently the john wick divided, Dancer, allowed Ana de Armas to join, as this film’s schedule changed. Even though Johansson probably would have done a great job too, I can’t complain about the De Armas takeover. You can watch the full interview with the director below:
Although ghost received mixed to negative reviews from critics, with some fans on social media seeming enthusiastic about the couple Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time the two friends team up for another great movie.
