Society rising star talks about breaking social norms and making a good film for dark-haired young people

On the other side of New movie releases 2023 like the recent one john wick next or next Fast & Furious input, still not enough action films made by female directors to access polite society. Nida Manzoor’s first feature film is a martial arts comedy that is among the most original films of this year, if you let “the fury” get into your heart. Also, it features a huge talent, Priya Kansara, who I don’t think I’ve seen the last of, by any means.

Gossipify needs to talk polite societyLead actress Priya Kansara finding her first leading role in a film with the release, and yes, she has done her own stunts. During our interview, she reacted to the love the film has received so far, among the unbelievable reaction it received at Sundance to Malala appearing at the London premiere and calling it a “smart and compelling film” in her instagram . In Kansara’s words:

I think for all of us, the fact that this movie touched someone in particular, you know, I think like the young Browns, when they say they feel connected to this movie, honestly, it’s very special. As if one could not hope for a better welcome. It was amazing.

There have certainly been more in recent years great South Asian characters in recent movies and TV shows , but none as badass as Ria Khan. The film follows a high school girl who lives in London with her Pakistani-British family and aspires to be a stunt performer. When her older sister Lena (Ritu Arya) drops out of art school and quickly becomes engaged, Ria becomes determined to protect her sister’s future. Kansara also shared her relationship with her polite society character.

I think about Ria’s sense of self-worth and what it’s based on and the journey she’s on in wanting to be a strict woman and have her sister support her through that. And then also having like a blimp over it and interrogating him and worrying that if her sister can’t do it, how can she do it? It was something I really connected with. And you know, again, sibling relationships, family relationships, breaking those societal norms, wanting to do something that’s outside the box that’s not traditional, and not knowing how to balance that in a world where it’s not really something people they do a lot

The independent film delivered many action sequences in the space of a month of shooting. During ReelBlend Podcast Interview with Nida Manzoor , the writer/director talked about the ten years between her first draft of the script and its release, as well as how the huge action scenes of the third act were shot in a week. Manzoor has often called her star Kansara the “new Tom Cruise.”

During the Gossipify interview with Kansara, the actress recalled that she was very proud of Ria’s backflip in her fight sequence with Nimra Bucha’s Reheela. As she shared, she pulled it off when production only had “three takes left for the day,” and she pulled it off with the last take.

Looking to the future, Nida Manzoor wants continue to make genre films focused on women . We hope Priya Kansara joins us on the journey. you can check polite society now in theaters.
