Shark Week is officially back on Discovery for 2022, with plenty of new prime-time specials filled with sharks over the next few days. One such special is the latest episode of the longtime fan favorite. air jaws series, started in 2001 and followed by teams of researchers and photographers who travel to South Africa to photograph the great white sharks emerging from the surface of the water. this year it is called Air Jaws: Top Gunsand creator and executive producer Jeff Kurr explained why Shark Week kissed best gun At the moment.
best gun is, of course, one of the iconic ’80s movies that has stood the test of time, and maybe that’s why so many fans can explode. in a version of “Great Balls of Fire” and / or “You lost that feeling of love” in the blink of an eye. Top Gun: Maverick finally hit theaters earlier this year, so the timing couldn’t be better for a Shark Week special covering the topic. But how it works air jaws? Speaking to Gossipify, Jeff Kurr explained:
Another guy named Chris Fallows and I were kind of an original Air Jaws talent, so to speak, using the word “talent” loosely, but we were kind of the main characters all those years filming great white sharks. and to get closer to these animals. in South Africa. I just decided this year was the time to bring some new blood. Just like the Top Gun movie, Maverick reminded me, then did the young pilots come? Well, we have a couple of new guys, Dickie Chivell and Andy Casagrande, who are basically on a mission to try and overcome what Chris and I have been doing for twenty years. They are trying to film the greatest white shark ever jumped. So that was his mission, and it was a lot of fun doing it.
My God, the fans are in the mood for something new this year Air Jaws: the best weapons! Andy Casagrande and Dickie Chivell may not exactly be Tom Cruise and Miles Teller, and photographing sharks is as far as possible from aerial combat in the skies, but they are among the highlights of Shark Week year after year, so who’s better? take the reins of air jaws try to outdo the originals? Whether or not they do, the special should definitely be interesting and Kurr’s preview reveals that they shot something spectacular in South Africa. He continued:
The blow they ended up receiving will likely go down in Air Jaws history as one of the most iconic breaches ever captured. It is amazing and beautiful. And even these guys, Andy and Dickie, got the benefit of these great new cameras they have now, because for the original Air Jaws, which I shot over 20 years ago, we did it in standard definition on videotape. Today there are 6K and 8K cameras and amazing. It just makes the sharks look amazing, beautiful.
Shark Week technology has certainly evolved over the years and air jaws will make the most of it. There is no doubt that Casagrande and Chivell needed all the perks they could get because, as fans saw in previous years of Shark Week, killer whales killed many great white sharks off the coast of South Africa, so it became harder to find sharks.
So how are Andy Casagrande and Dickie Chivell as partners? Viewers will get something best gun vibrations of its dynamics, as well as the format of the special? Everyone will have to wait for the July 25 special broadcasts to find out if Casagrande or Chivell is really a Maverick, but executive producer Jeff Kurr promised they were “fun” and “had great energy” together. He also had a long history with the two of them before taking them to air jaws in this new way, as he shared:
In fact, I discovered these two guys. Dickie used to take us lunch on the boat when I was a kid during filming. I think he was about 17 or 18. I said, ‘Now this guy has charisma and he’s great with sharks.’ He is like a fish, he would be cool in Shark Week. Well, the rest is history. And Andy Casagrande: he was in South Africa and he came to me and he said, ‘Hey, I really like sharks, I have this song about sharks that I made up. Would you like to hear it? ‘ I had no idea who he was. So he played the shark song and I thought he was pretty cool. Anyway, it was a long time ago, almost twenty years ago and look where it is now.
Andy Casagrande has been a part of Shark Week for many years, so his origin, which derives at least in part from a shark song, is a funny anecdote. As for Dickie Chivell, he and Kurr teamed up on another Discovery 2022 shark celebration special, called shark house and airing Thursday. Kurr continued:
It’s part of the fun of working at Shark Week for 32 years. She’s just discovering new talent, people who have amazing shark skills and charisma that can really help tell a story, and putting Dickie and Andy together was just great chemistry. These guys are fun and they are fun. They both have an incredible passion for sharks, which really manifests itself, so it’s a really fun movie.
