The Sanderson sisters haven’t cast their last spell. Walt Disney Pictures Chairman Sean Bailey announced on New York Times that a third installment of Hocus Pocus was being prepared, eight months after the premiere of the previous one.
“Yes, ‘Hocus Pocus 3’ will take place,” he limited himself to saying to the American newspaper.
No additional information regarding a filming date, release date, or casting has been announced at this time.
30 years of waiting
Released in 1993, hocus pocus It was a resounding flop in theaters before becoming, over the years, a festive Halloween classic. This family comedy starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as a trio of eccentric witchy sisters. Executed in the 17th century, they came back to life on the night of October 31 to seek revenge.
The three actresses put their costumes back on last year for a sequel aired on Disney+, getting off to the best start in the platform’s history. On the other hand, the teenagers who faced them in the first film, Omri Katz (Max) and Vinessa Shaw (Allison) had not returned. A third installment could be an opportunity to bring them back, as the screenwriter of ‘Hocus Pocus 2’, Jen D’Angelo, had hinted in the columns of variety:
“We really tried to get the original cast for appearances, but it always failed, for one reason or another. But hopefully in ‘Hocus Pocus 3,’ we’ll see Max and Alison (the heroes of the first movie, editor’s note) living in California”.
