Bros reviews are here, find out why critics love Billy Eichner’s LGBTQ + romantic comedy

The anticipation is high for Billy Eichner’s next LGBTQ + romantic comedy siblingsand that excitement only grew from the movie. received stellar reactions after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Eichner wrote the script with director Nicholas Stoller and the stars in front. Luke Macfarlane’s favorite movie in comedy, make history with a main cast of overtly LGBTQ + actors . The reviews have arrived, so let’s see what critics have to say about the romantic comedy ahead of its theatrical release on September 30th.

Together with the two protagonists, siblings features tons of queer talent , including Bowen Yang, Harvey Fierstein, Guillermo Diaz, Dot-Marie Jones, and Ts Madison, so there seems to be a lot to be excited about. The story centers on Bobby Lieber (Billy Eichner), an unfortunate podcast host who gets involved with Aaron Shepard (Luke Macfarlane). So what time will the calamity of romantic comedies come? Let’s see what the critics have to say, starting with 24 News Bulletin’s review of siblings . Our Corey Chichizola gives the film 4 out of 5 stars, saying the cast and script combine to deliver a truly entertaining and heartwarming experience. He says:

While Bros opens up new horizons as a queer romantic comedy that hits theaters completely, it will also give audiences everything they want from a Judd Apatow comedy. Things get outrageous, especially when it comes to Bobby and Aaron’s sex life. But at the same time, Bros also pays special attention to honoring queer history in a way that feels organic and real.

carla renata The curvy critic he defines the film as outrageous and insightful, with a script that will pierce the most cynical hearts while making audiences laugh. From Review:

Well, honey, I have to tell you that this insightful romantic comedy about a witty and cynical podcaster navigating a romantic relationship with a handsome lawyer is a perfect portrayal of queer New York at its best! Billy Eichner worked all the way with Bros. I screamed, laughed and responded to the screen … really, even though it was great.

Although this review highlighted it siblingshumor, by Richard Lawson dressing table commends Billy Eichner for striking a balance between the brand he is known for and some truly heartfelt moments. More from the review:

Anyone familiar with Eichner’s extravagant Billy on the Street TV series will recognize the particular go-to brand and biting humor that gives The Bros its biting energy. The novelty is a layer of softness and introspection, an Apatovian melancholy that rounds the sharp edges of the film. Eichner proves to be gifted as much for semi-seriousness as for comedy. Maybe even more: some of my favorite moments from the film are when Bobby (and probably Billy) pauses in their routine to explain themselves honestly, to expose their nature in a rare expression of vulnerability.

Ryan Lattanzio from IndieWire rates the film a B, calling siblings a gay homage to classic romantic comedy. The review notes that one thing the film does well is that it doesn’t try too hard to attract gay audiences; it simply sees and hears them. The critic says:

The real twist is that the cast is gay through and through, gay, gay … and that’s where it stops. The script outline is largely conventional, but that’s a good thing. When we talk about wanting to be seen, many of us really mean that what we want is a gay version of our romantic comedies from the 90s, when the genre was at its best. Bros does the trick.

Dan Bayer from next best film He gives it an 8 out of 10, saying that Billy Eichner and Nichols Stoller do a great job of showing just how different gay and straight relationships are, yet it still fits the classic mold of romantic comedies. He calls this film “the flagship of a new generation of films that will not carry the representative burden of this film”. More from the review:

Line by line is the funnest movie of the year so far. But it’s also inspiring in the way it recognizes the difference between gay and straight relationships and questions the importance for LGBTQ + people to discover our story and tell our stories. [However] the burden of representation can seem overwhelming at times and if you’re not a fan of Billy Eichner’s style of humor, this may not work for you.

It seems that the critics are enthusiastic about it siblings, and it is impossible to ignore the importance of this film in terms of representation. If that’s what you need to see on the big screen, you can do it from Friday September 30th. Also be sure to check out ours 2022 film release schedule to see what other films will hit theaters soon.
