American rapper Tupac Shakur, assassinated nearly thirty years ago after a brief and dazzling career, was finally awarded a star on Hollywood’s “Walk of Fame” on Wednesday.
A hip-hop legend, Tupac had risen to the top of the American West Coast entertainer list before being ousted in September 1996 in Las Vegas, under circumstances that remain unclear. He was 25 years old.
“Tupac knew deep down that he had a great future,” his sister, Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, said at the opening ceremony in Los Angeles.
Millions of albums sold
“I am extremely honored to be here today to represent the Shakur family,” she added. “As a little sister, I was privileged to see her greatness emerge.”
The rapper, at the origin of the tubes California, Changes, Dear Mama AND all eyes on mehas sold 75 million albums.
Tupac Shakur, who would have been 51, remains highly influential in the world of hip-hop, with his intensely emotional lyrics and sense of theatrics.
