The risk of developing lung cancer is higher in women than in men for the same tobacco use. These are the first results of the Cascade study (lung cancer screening using low-dose computed tomography), conducted since 2022 in women between the ages of 50 and 74 and reported by our colleagues at Franceinfo.
A lesson learned in part by… artificial intelligence. The software can effectively assist a radiologist by offering another reading from the lung cancer screening scanner.
Double reading wins again
“All the scans carried out in the study are subject to a double reading, by the radiologist assisted by artificial intelligence and then by two experts,” he had assured last month with the Spot Pr Marie-Pierre Revel, head of the radiology department at Cochin Hospital and principal investigator of the Cascade study.
“At this point, we still can’t say that the AI will get past the double read, but we can hope that it will,” he added.
Since this study is still ongoing, it is possible for women between the ages of 50 and 74 who smoke heavily or have already smoked heavily to participate and get tested in various cities in France. To do this, you can contact 06.15.06.58.35 or send an email to [email protected].
