The “widespread” vaccination of 5th grade students against the papillomavirus, promised at the beginning of the year by Emmanuel Macron, will start well from the beginning of the school year with the obtaining of parental consent, before two injections in the fall and spring. , according to various regional health agencies (ARS).
The homework was done before the holidays. Announced at the end of February by the Head of State, the vaccination campaign against the human papilloma virus (HPV), which causes more than 6,000 new cases of cancer each year, is ready to be deployed in at least three regions.
Well first, the ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine unveiled its agenda at the beginning of June: “From the month of September” the collection of “the authorization of both parents” will be done online through a “dematerialized form”.
“Mobile teams” of caregivers
Students who have obtained this parental permission will receive the first dose “between October and December”, then the second “between April and June”, each time at their university and “during school hours”.
The injections will be carried out by “mobile teams” of caregivers outside the establishment, under the protection of already identified “vaccination centers”, most attached to hospitals or clinics.
The ARS aims to “vaccinate all 70,000 fifth grade students” in New Aquitaine, beyond the 80% target for 2030 set out in the government’s cancer plan.
More cautious, its Occitania neighbor indicated at the end of June that it was aiming for “at least 30%” of the age group in question, that is, “a potential workforce of 21,000 university students” vaccinated next year.
Completely free vaccination
Its calendar is even more precise, with a first injection scheduled “from November 6”, therefore at the beginning of the All Saints’ Day festivities, and the second “mid-May”, that is, after the Bridge of the Ascension.
In the Parisian region, the agenda is more flexible: contacted by AFP, ARS Île-de-France evokes “a first vaccine dose proposed between October and January, the second six months later” and also hopes “to touch one in three students”. ” out of a total of 150,000 5th grade students.
On the government side, the ministers François Braun (Health) and Pap Ndiaye (National Education) have for the moment made do with a letter, addressed to the parents of 6th grade students -who will therefore go on to 5th grade in September-, recalling that “this vaccination will be totally free” and ensures that “informative sessions can be organized at the beginning of the school year”, without further details.
