The mascara is making a comeback this fall. In doubt, the number of new Covid cases uploaded again after the start of the school year, but also the return of traditional seasonal viruses. For some French people, the mask will therefore be part of everyday life in the coming months, whether they are forced to wear it or not.
“In places where there are a lot of people, I wear a mask. Not necessarily against covid, but to avoid all microbes, diverse and varied. I found that during the covid period, we were less sick, not the rhinos.[pharyngite]without gastro[-entérite]“, assures a passerby who wears protection, even on the street.
“It’s not just Covid, there are all the winter viruses that come back, so I keep it up,” testifies another convinced user.
Health authorities in favor of the return of the mask
An opinion shared by the Health Risk Surveillance and Anticipation Committee (Covars), the new version of the Scientific Council. It recommends that the French start wearing the mask again on public transport and in populated places.
Because the eighth wave of Covid is here: Covid Tracker counts almost 40,000 cases daily, that’s 31% more than last week.
Added to this is a strong return of the flu this winter, such as in Australia, which recorded 147,000 cases this year, compared to just 730 a year ago.
“The data showed that there was greater efficacy for Covid than for the flu,” specifies the epidemiologist Dominique Costagliola.
“It could also ultimately contribute to further reducing the transmission of respiratory viruses that circulate in winter. I think that in places like public transport it could be recommended in general”, shares the specialist.
A recommendation that cannot be transformed into an obligation. With the end of the state of health emergency voted this summer, the mask can no longer be required in transport.
