A product in the government viewer for a while. The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Born, announced this Sunday on RTL that disposable electronic cigarettes, called “puffs”, could soon be banned by the Government, within the framework of a new national plan to fight smoking, currently under preparation.
“They give young people bad habits,” justifies the head of government.
“You could say that it’s not nicotine, but it’s a reflex and a gesture that young people get used to. That’s how they start smoking,” he says.
Particularly popular with teenagers.
The Minister of Health, François Braun, had already spoken several times in recent months in favor of banning puffs, also believing, last May, that “they led young people to smoke.” He also highlighted the fact that they are not reusable, which he says is “ecological nonsense.”
However, the minister stated that he wanted to “maintain” “nicotinic substitutes for quitting tobacco” in the form of electronic cigarettes.
Theoretically prohibited for minors, the disposable electronic cigarette, with flavors ranging from cotton candy to mojito, is especially appreciated by teenagers.
smoking on the rise
Elisabeth Borne further lamented on RTL that tobacco use among the French “has risen again.”
“Tobacco causes 75,000 deaths a year, it’s enormous,” said the head of government, assuring however that no increase in cigarette packs is planned for 2024.
