A fourth resident of the Pleine-Fougères nursing home (Ille-et-Vilaine) died, probably as a result of food poisoning that occurred at the end of October, the prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday evening.
“I confirm the death of the resident of the nursing home who was hospitalized,” Saint-Malo prosecutor Fabrice Tremel told AFP, confirming information from the newspaper Ouest-France.
Investigation opened for manslaughter
On Friday night, the magistrate announced the opening of an investigation for involuntary manslaughter and unintentional injuries following the death of three residents of this nursing home located not far from Mont-Saint-Michel.
A fourth resident was still hospitalized at the time. It was she who died, according to the magistrate. In a press release, the magistrate mentioned a probable “food poisoning”, which affected forty residents and staff of the establishment on the night of October 30 to 31.
Food poisoning is studied
According to Ouest-France, the management of the Les Marais residence confirmed that the “food origin” of the pathology “is now proven.” Contacted by AFP, the establishment did not immediately respond. Asked about this specific point, the prosecutor did not respond.
The investigation was entrusted to the Saint-Malo investigation brigade, the Central Office to combat attacks on the environment and public health and the National Veterinary and Phytosanitary Research Brigade.
