Flu: Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France enter the epidemic phase, like five other regions

The seasonal flu epidemic spreads to two new metropolitan areas in this last week of the year.

The seasonal flu epidemic has continued to progress in recent days in France, reaching especially the Paris region, while the bronchiolitis epidemic has continued to decline after a peak in early December, the public health agency indicated on Wednesday.

The main indicators of the flu epidemic (number of medical consultations, hospitalizations, etc.) “were on the rise” last week, which ended on December 24, according to the weekly report of Public Health France.

The epidemic, which had spread throughout the east of the country, is now also affecting Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France. As for the regions of France where the epidemic is not yet in full swing, they are already in the so-called “pre-epidemic” phase.

Abroad, Guyana and Mayotte remain affected by the epidemic and Guadeloupe is now in the pre-epidemic phase.

Reduction of bronchiolitis

As the flu spreads in France, the public health agency confirms a decline in the bronchiolitis epidemic, which mainly affects babies.

After a peak at the beginning of December, its main indicators decreased “for the third consecutive week”, notes Public Health France, underlining, however, that they remain at a high level, as all metropolitan regions remain affected by the epidemic.

“In this context of high circulation of various respiratory viruses and in addition to vaccination against influenza and Covid-19” among the most vulnerable, such as those over 65 years of age, “the systematic adoption of barrier gestures by the of everyone, in particular the use of a mask in case of symptoms, in crowded places and in the presence of vulnerable people”, reminds Public Health France.
