A poisoned gift for allergy sufferers. If the sun shines during this big Ascension weekend, the improvement is synonymous with greater exposure to grass pollen, warns the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA) in a press release.
“The rainfall at the end of April and beginning of May favored the growth and development of grasses. The return this week of sunny and warmer weather will cause high concentrations of grass pollen to be released into the air,” explains the RNSA.
Grass pollen concentrations should increase especially from Thursday. The allergy risk is already at a medium level in several departments and should increase rapidly to a high level in the coming days.
Initially, pollen will be in greatest concentration in the south and west, before affecting the entire country. Forecast maps for the next five days are available on the RNSA website, Pollens.fr.
Grasses are the herbaceous plants that we see growing along roads and in fields. According to the RNSA, several are highly allergenic, including timothy, bluegrass, ryegrass, coltsfoot, fescue, poultry, rye, oats and even wheat.
