“In the airlift that allows us to address the thousand internal security forces of New Caledonia, we have also mobilized hundreds of blood bags that are being transported,” he explained on our tray.
The bags “were transported yesterday afternoon to the Istres air base,” Frédéric Pacoud, president of the French Blood Organization (EFS), later clarified on our antenna. “They should arrive on Sunday at noon, Nouméa time,” he added.
Critical situation”
The situation of “blood products” is “critical” in New Caledonia, according to Frédéric Pacoud. “For several days, blood donations have been suspended, although needs are increasing due to the influx of a certain number of wounded people to the hospital,” explains the president of the EFS.
“The situation in the Noumea hospital is that soon there will no longer be enough blood products to meet the health needs of the population,” he warns.
In addition to blood bags, the inhabitants of New Caledonia and, in particular, Nouméa, also have difficulties obtaining food and medicine. “There is no shortage of stock at the moment, but there are delivery difficulties” to companies, explained the delegate minister in charge of the Overseas Territories, Marie Guévenoux.
