No, UK authorities have not advised against vaccinating pregnant women

Contrary to what Didier Raoult said on our set this Tuesday, vaccination of pregnant women against Covid-19 is still recommended in the UK.

The facts, nothing but the facts. Invited this Tuesday night on the set of BFMTV, Professor Didier Raoult, the target of accusations of forgery of writings, defended himself on our antenna and returned to the health crisis and vaccination against Covid-19.

“Everyone agrees that people over 50 years of age should be vaccinated, that it should not be given to pregnant women or children. […] England has just said that pregnant women should not be vaccinated”, said in particular the former director of the IHU in Marseille.

Are you telling the truth? Let’s not go there four ways: no. British authorities continue to recommend that pregnant women get vaccinated. Like our colleague from Parisian Nicolas Berrod, the British government “strongly” recommends vaccination for pregnant and lactating women.

“Vaccines against Covid-19 available in the United Kingdom have proven their efficacy and have very good safety”, can also be read on the dedicated page on the British government website. “It is important to have your Covid-19 vaccine to protect yourself and your child,” it also reads.

Vaccination of pregnant women is also recommended in France

So where does this fake news come from? All part of the update last August of a page published on the same site, as pointed out by our colleagues at LCI. In a document regarding the evaluation of the Pfizer vaccine published online by the MHRA (the British equivalent of the HAS), it can be read that “it is not possible at this time to sufficiently guarantee the safety of the administration of the vaccine in pregnant women “.

A phrase that can be confusing, except that this document dates from December 2020, when vaccines were not yet distributed massively throughout the world. A text that has remained “unaltered” and includes data from the laboratory. Data far from complete at the time, and which is much more extensive today, more than a year and a half after the start of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19.

In France, vaccination of children is possible from the age of five and vaccination of pregnant women is recommended. The National Medicines Agency recalls that pregnant women who have contracted Covid-19 are more at risk of contracting a severe form of the disease. A second booster dose is also recommended as recommended by the opinion of the High Health Authority.
