Savoy: emergencies are closed after attacks on caregivers in the department

Several attacks have affected the hospital world of Savoy in recent weeks, causing the closure of the emergency room of the private hospital of the Savoy Country until this Friday morning.

These are “several acts of aggression” reported by the Regional Health Agency of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and which “took place” between December and early January “in Haute-Savoie.

Consequently, “the emergencies of the private hospital of the Savoy Country will be closed until January 10 in the morning,” indicated the Regional Health Agency this Thursday, January 9. “Patients awaiting surgery were treated and the others redirected” to other establishments, the ARS wanted to reassure.

The health organization has listed several attacks that have affected the hospital environment in Savoy. “At the beginning of December, at the Sallanches hospital, two nurses were violently attacked; events that were repeated at the beginning of January. On January 6, a SMUR vehicle belonging to the Annecy-Genevois hospital center was stoned during an intervention”, lists the ARS.

19,328 cases of violence in 2021 in the hospital

“On the night of January 8 to 9, seven caregivers were physically attacked at the Pays de Savoie private hospital in Annemasse (HPPS) by two individuals who considered the waiting time too long. The latter fled before the arrival of the police. ” , continues the ARS. The latter specify “that today there was another attack against a health professional at the Alpes-Léman hospital center.”

The National Council of the Order of Physicians “condemned with the utmost firmness the violent and horrific attack that occurred in the emergency room of the Pays de Savoie private hospital on the night of January 8 to 9, 2025.”

“We express our unwavering support to all personnel injured and traumatized by this event,” the Order stated in a press release released Thursday night.

According to the ARS, “19,328 cases of violence (attacks on people and property) were reported in 2021,” and staff represented 84% of the victims.
