Coping with the flu epidemic. 87 hospitals have activated the “white plan”, a system that allows certain operations to be descheduled or staff to be withdrawn from sick leave, the Ministry of Health indicated this Friday, January 10.
The Minister of Labor, Health, Solidarity and Family, Catherine Vautrin, had mentioned shortly before on CNews-Europe 1 that “a hundred” hospital establishments had activated this system, since Thursday night, due to the influx of patients.
Vaccination call
The winter flu epidemic, which usually lasts ten to twelve weeks, intensified in early January and is causing an “exceptionally high” level of hospitalizations compared to previous seasons, Public Health France (SpF) noted on Wednesday.
The number of flu-related deaths has increased, mainly among people over 65 years of age.
To protect us against this, the authorities regularly remind us that vaccination remains the most effective, especially against severe forms of flu and Covid-19.
It is recommended for people aged 65 years and over, immunocompromised people, infants over six months with comorbidities, pregnant women and residents of medical-social facilities.
On CNews-Europe 1, Catherine Vautrin asked “those who have not yet been vaccinated” to do so.
“When we analyze arrivals to the emergency room and, in particular, cases of complications, more than 70% of them are people who are not vaccinated and who are eligible,” he stressed.
