The Minister of Health, Catherine Vautrin, announced Monday night that a salivary test used for the diagnosis of endometriosis, even in the experimental stage, would already be reimbursed since Tuesday for certain patients.
“It is a cost of 800 euros per woman,” which will be covered by health insurance, said France Minister 2.
These tests that detect endometriosis by saliva thanks to the analysis and sequencing of RNA (“endotest”) were designed by the biotechnology of Lyonnaise Ziwig.
Studies on this test have been considered promising enough for high health authority (HA) to justify a large -scale experiment.
A first green light a few months before
The fact that it has given green light in October to the management of these tests, through a derogatory device. The government had already indicated that this opinion would follow, which will finally be formalized in a decree to appear on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Health and Ziwig, about 25,000 patients over 18 may take care of in the coming months, an estimate that remains “theoretical” according to the Catherine Vautrin cabinet.
The first 2,500 will be included in a clinical study, whose results (decrease in the number of diagnostic surgeries, impact on general management) will condition a possible reimbursement generalization.
“As soon as we have the results related to these patients, the high health authority will give a final opinion that will highlight the merits of the test and, behind, care for all women in our country,” said Catherine Vautrin in France 2.
More than 2 million prosecutor affected
The minister had personally committed to the issue as soon as he arrived at the Government by announcing the reimbursements of the evidence in early 2024 in 2025.
Endometriosis affects more than 2 million women of fertile age.
Diagnostic assembly around this pathology is enormous: seven years are necessary on average to make a diagnosis. Symptoms have a considerable impact on the quality of life of affected people, recalls the Ministry of Health.
