It is a time saving that can lead to unpleasant complications. The installation of false eyelashes, at home and in a beauty institute, can lead to serious inconveniences in people, mostly women, who use it. With BFMTV, ophthalmologists launch the alert this Monday, March 10.
What are we talking about? Red, itching, even worse, in the eye, a particularly sensitive area. Claire paid the price of these services before finding a reliable institute. She tells her galleys:
“At the beginning, when I went to some suppliers, after two days he scratched my eyes. I had a fairly red eyelid”
How to detect a place where the service may not be adequate? These institutes often offer a price that is too low compared to the real cost of a good installation of false eyelashes, which are around one hundred euros.
“You really have to have them raised by someone who knows how to do it, in a clean place,” says Professor Dominique Brémond-Gignac, head of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Service at the Sick-Enfer Sick Hospital in Necker-Enfants.
“There are real complications”
If no number of complications is known today, the vice president of the Union of Ophtalmologists of France, Barbara Ameline-Chalumeau, shares this alert. Remember the manifestations of this problem: “The red and irritated eyelids that bite, and possibly a feeling of having dust or sand in the eyes.”
Dominique Brémond-Gignac confirms that what might seem “makeup” presents the risk of “real complications” at each stage. At the time of the installation, the glue can land in the eye and cause a keratoconjuntivitis, an attack on the cornea and the conjunctiva. Even a small amount can be a problem.
But side effects can also manifest after installation, through allergic reactions to the glue in particular. Or, by eliminating extensions, since a solvent is used and can again cause an allergy.
