A group of hospital practitioners unions warned on Thursday, April 24 about an “unsustainable situation” of a dozen drugs in psychiatry that “increases”, demanding that the causes of this situation be “clearly identified.”
“For several months, psychiatry has been particularly in difficulty with recurring supply tensions in terms of breaks, for more and more molecules,” deplores this group in a common press release.
The list of signatories, are more than thirty, includes the presidents of the Union Union Action Praticais (APH), that of Psychiatry (USP), the Union of Public Hospitals (SPHP), the National Federation of Psychiatry and Pharmaceutical Unions.
The group demands “to take urgent measures”
In its press release, the group called “health authorities, pharmaceutical laboratories and political decision makers to take urgent measures to resolve this crisis.”
“French psychiatry is already at the end of its means and exhausted professionals and in the obvious subjects,” the signatories throw.
They require “greater transparency in stocks and supply of medications” and that the causes of these ruptures are “clearly identified.”
They recommend “a device that encourages manufacturers laboratories to maintain access to these medications” and “reinforced support for health professionals and patients affected by this shortage.”
14 supply tensions and existent jumps
In mid -April, several psychiatrists had expressed their concerns about the multiple drug scarcity in their discipline on a platform published in the world.
Since January 1, 2025, the National Medication Safety Agency (ANSM) has reported 14 supply tensions and stocks in psychotropic medications, among others, Quetiapina, very prescribed in front of bipolar disorders and schizophrenia, or serraline, one of the main antidepressants.
In a situation published on Thursday, the ANSM indicates that the activity of the Pharmathen International Factory, in Greece, which normally provides 60 % of the quetiapina distributed in France, “has not yet found a normal level” after a stop linked to a lack of quality.
