Laziness, unexpected sequel to Covid-19 among the French

Laziness wins over the population more and more since the confinements and reconfinements linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. Home deliveries are on the rise.

After Covid-19, is laziness contaminating the population? Since the pandemic, the French have shown themselves to be increasingly lazy, according to a survey published on November 11 by the Jean-Jaurès institute in collaboration with IFOP.

“Since the health crisis, 30% of those surveyed say they are less motivated than before,” the survey reports.

This figure is especially significant among young adults, since 40% of young people between 25 and 34 years old say they are less motivated than before the periods of confinement, compared to 21% of those over 65 years of age.

The inhabitants of the Paris region, whose living conditions during the lockdowns were particularly burdensome, also say they are more affected. 41% of them are less motivated than before, compared to 22% of rural residents.

Plaid sales increase

“It’s cold, they don’t really want to move, suddenly we feel lazy all the time for everything and nothing,” a young woman confessed to BFMTV.

“Lazy to make a machine, lazy to take out the garbage,” lists yet another. This tendency to stay at home is confirmed in terms of purchases. Therefore, the plaid is particularly sought after by the French.

“It is selling very well,” confirms Morgan Cherki, marketing director of the Toto company. “It’s one of the essentials when you’re tired or lazy,” he says with a smile.

Companies are adapting

With this change of uses, companies are adapting. An evolution that even goes so far as to develop a new economy.

“The consumer society has understood this state of fatigue very well. Companies have adapted a lot both through a certain number of products and through home delivery”, confirms to BFMTV Jérémie Peltier, director of the Jean-Jaurès foundation.

However, this trend has serious consequences for health by contributing to the increase in sedentary lifestyle and obesity.
