Fight against fraud and traffic: health insurance requires the presentation of the vital card for certain medications

In the name of the fight against abuse and traffic, health insurance now requests the systematic presentation of the vital card to obtain the reimbursement of certain medications, highly requested or particularly expensive.

Presenting your vital card in pharmacies must be systematic, in particular to obtain the reimbursement of certain medications, highly requested or particularly expensive, announced on Tuesday, June 17, health insurance, on behalf of the fight against abuse.

“To promote the proper use of the health system, to further ensure the issuance of sensitive and/or expensive medicines, to limit fraud and improve the traceability of the care course, it will now be mandatory to present your vital card in pharmacy to benefit from care,” said the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) in a press release.

This presentation will be “systematically necessary to benefit from the third -party payment, particularly for the issuance of expensive risks or medications,” specifies the CNAM.

Avoid traffic and fraud

In particular, it evokes medications that can be trafficmed such as medications based on medications or more antidiabetics.

In other words, it will be necessary to provide the physical or dematerialized card during each visit to the pharmacy so as not to advance costs.

Faced with “the worrying increase in fraud and deviation of certain sensitive medications”, (narcotics, antidiabetics or expensive treatments), health insurance requires adopting this “good reflection” to guarantee “a more efficient, safe and always united health system.”

The exceptions will remain possible, “for example, for babies of less than 3 months” or for residents in nursing homes, adds the CNAM that insists on “the correct reflection to adopt.”

State medical help beneficiaries (AME), on the other hand, must present their AME card to benefit from the payment of the third part.

Questioned by the AFP about whether the mandatory presentation of the vital card referred to all medicines, or only those presented by its press release, the CNAM replied that this measure should be “systematized” but was “more essential” for expensive treatments or with a high risk of traffic or misuse.
