“Since the beginning of 2024, several hundred poisoning have been identified in people who have consumed products presented as a CBD container”, after informing the health and toxic toxic centers or evaluation and information centers on pharmacodependence-adictovigilance, these health agencies said in a press release.
These products whose consumption has been common in recent years, have been sold in stores, in automatic distributors or on the internet in the form of e-liquids for electronic cigarettes, smoked products (resins, flowers) or food (oils, capsules, sweets, chocolates, etc.).
Prohibited substances
But “very often the composition announced, especially on the labels, does not correspond to the real composition”, and “in most cases, the poisoning is caused by prohibited substances present in these products, such as synthetic cannabinoids, without the knowledge of consumer levels or THC (the active substance of the cannabis editor note) greater than 0.3%” ANSES “.
People (teenagers, young adults, forty …) thinking that they have only consumed the CBD ends with “already serious” symptoms: fatigue, drowsiness, nausea, headache, anxiety, dizziness, vomiting, tachicardia, acute anxiety crisis, agitation state accompanied by hallucinations, loss of the epilepsy of knowledge, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.
The effects, generally linked to the presence of THC or synthetic cannabinoids (HHC, HHC-O, H4-CBD, MDMB-Pinaca …), may whatever the duration, frequency or form under which the product has been consumed: smoked, vooptered or ingested, observe health agencies.
And it is also necessary to keep the products based on the CBD, to the presentation sometimes attractive, beyond the reach of children because an accidental ingestion can lead to particularly serious effects at home, warns the ANSM and the ANS.
Classified as drugs
Currently, foods contained in CBD (oils, capsules, sweets or chocolate, ‘gommies’, syrups, cakes and other culinary preparations), all potentially at health risk, are not authorized for sale in the European Union.
As for products that contain synthetic cannabinoids or CBD with THC at a speed of more than 0.3%, they are classified as narcotics, and their sale, their purchase and consumption are prohibited for all uses (ingesting, vaping, smoking …).
In case of unexpected or unwanted effects after the consumption of a CBD product, the authorities recommend calling immediately 15 in case of a risk of vital anguish (loss of consciousness, discomfort …) and, in other cases, consult a doctor or call an anti -poison center. If the product remains, it is advisable to keep it for a possible analysis.
