Tobacco: The smoking ban was extended to beaches, parks and under the shelters since Sunday

The Minister of Health, Catherine Vautrin, had announced at the end of May that smoking cigarettes would be prohibited in “where there are children”, such as parks.

The decree announced by the Government to extend the prohibition of smoking to shelters, parks and public gardens, beaches, as well as on the outskirts of libraries, swimming pools or schools was published this Saturday, June 28 in the official magazine, with the application on Sunday.

This prohibition, mainly to protect children from passive smoking, does not refer to the terraces of coffees and restaurants and does not mention electronic cigarettes, according to this text.

The decree must still be complemented with a decree of the minister in charge of health to define the precise perimeters where it will no longer be possible to smoke near schools, libraries or sports teams.

“Every year, one in ten deaths is linked to tobacco. Smoking kills 75,000 people in France. This represents more than 200 dead per day. This is the main cause of avoidable mortality, “said Minister of Health Catherine Vautrin at the end of May.
