A new hope to fight HIV? The European Union gives a green light to a new preventive treatment.

The European medication authority has validated the authorization of a new preventive treatment against HIV. A first green light for this treatment that works with two injections to do per year.

A new hope in the fight against HIV. Lenacapavir, a new preventive treatment, could, according to a study, be a solution to reduce the risk of HIV infections. The European Medicines Authority has spoken this week for the authorization of this new remedy that requires two injections per year.

“The initiative is good. Then, what I am not sure every six months that in terms of regularity there are many people as they do,” said a passerby in BFMTV.

“It’s great that it takes place, but I don’t think I had the usefulness, that’s why I won’t take,” adds another resident.

1.3 million contaminated people in 2024

This treatment is intended for people who are not affected by HIV and reduces almost 100% of the risk of contamination by attacking infected cells to limit the spread of virus in the body.

For associations that fight against the virus, this medicine is hope. “The concern now is that young or older people do not protect enough,” said BFMTV, Florence Thune, general director of Sidation.

“We hope that with a longer duration of efficiency, people go to this type of tool,” he adds.

Different researchers expect this treatment to be available in the market by 2027. In 2024, HIV contaminated 1.3 million people.
