Between July 7 and 14, six people, whose victim, from the same region, had been hospitalized after consuming carrots “put by hand.” The victims had eaten a homemade carrot cake. Carrots had never been sold in commerce.

A serious illness

Botulism is a serious illness that develops in humans after the consumption of poorly preserved foods, infected with clostridium botulinum bacteria. This bacterium is in particular in poor sterilized homemade products.

There is no interhuman transmission. According to the Pasteur Institute, a dozen patient homes are known every year.

Botulism is a serious neurological condition, with many symptoms: digestive disorders (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea), eye damage (lack of accommodation, blurred vision), neurological symptoms responsible for a risk of false paths, dry mouth accompanied by a defect in more losses or more losses. or less strong muscles.

Botulism pollution management should be rapid, the mortality rate is between 5 and 10%.
