Symptoms, origins … What is Lyme’s disease that Justin Timberlake suffers?

The American pop star Justin Timberlake announced on Instagram her fans suffered from Lyme’s disease, an infectious pathology due to a bacterium transmitted to the human being by bite of infected ticks.

“I would like to make my part to help others suffer from this disease.” In a long Instagram publication, the American pop star Justin Timberlake announced his fans on Thursday, July 31 on Thursday, who suffered from Lyme’s disease, an affection that, according to him, does not leave a break.

“If you have experienced this disease or if you know someone who has done it, then you are aware: to live with this can be tirelessly weakening, both mentally and physically,” the singer wrote to his 72 million subscribers.

“When I received the diagnosis, I was surprised. But at least I could understand why I had an intense nervous pain on stage, or why I felt madly tired or sick,” he added.

Lyme’s disease, also called Lyme Borreliosis, is an infectious disease due to a bacterium transmitted to human beings by tick bites, which feed on blood. It is estimated that 40,000 cases of Lyme disease in France are identified every year. As with other pathologies, man is an “accidental guest” of the disease, ticks that mordinate especially animals to eat.

Once in the human system, bacteria can spread throughout the body and impact our different organs, our skin, our joints or our nervous system, even the heart.

Complications

Rarely fatal but difficult to diagnose, this condition evolves in three phases, each with what results in different symptoms, sometimes very disabling. The primary phase is characterized by the appearance of a painless red plate around the bite, which requires rapid treatment of the disease.

Secondary and tertiary phases can lead to “neurological, joint, cardiac or skin complications,” according to the Pasteur Institute.

The secondary phase can be manifested by worsening of the eruption, called migrant erythema, and the appearance of symptoms such as “neurological manifestations or more rarely joint, skin, cardiac or ophthalmological.” In the tertiary phase, the patient suffers from skin or nerve manifestations.

Not properly treated or diagnosed on time, Lyme’s disease can lead to many sequelae, some of them are very disabling. There is no vaccine against Lyme’s disease, only antibiotics are prescribed and they are only effective if the pathology has been diagnosed in time.

What to do in case of a tick bite?

If you see a tick on your skin, after having frequented areas where mite is present (forest, high herbs … – it is imperative to remove it quickly using a tick, so as not to risk leaving your head.

“The risk that bacteria infection is more important if the tick remains attached,” recalls the Pasteur Institute.

After the bite, consult a doctor: “greater surveillance should be performed for 4 to 6 weeks” to ensure that the patient is not infected or, if this is the case, he can treat it with antibiotics.
