High blood pressure, cholesterol … children are likely too exposed to screens to develop health problems, according to a study

A Danish study, published this week, indicates that the more children are exposed to screens, the more they run the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases when they are adults.

The researchers smile at the alarm. A Danish study, published this week, establishes the link between the high exposure of children to screens and health problems.

This research shows, for example, that children often confronted with screens are more likely to have cardiovascular problems.

“Young children and adults who spend excessive hours glued to screens and electronic devices can have greater risks of cardiomethabolic diseases, such as high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol and insulin resistance,” according to this study published in the magazine “Journal of the American Heart Association.”

“She sits and does not move”

To reduce this exposure, several parents are trying to multiply the activities outside. This is the case of Victor, whose girl spends at least two hours a day in front of her tablet.

“She sits and does not move. Sometimes she is called, but she does not listen, it is when it is called a lot. But she remains too concentrated in the tablet,” the father informs BFMTV, who decided to bring his children to play in the park. “I love watching videos and rings,” justifies Victor’s daughter, a little mischievous.

“There are very clear rules”

For other children, the rules on screens are much more severe. This is the case of Léopold and Raphaël. For them, the screens are almost prohibited at home. “At home, there are very clear rules to know that it is Wednesday and weekend,” his father told BFMTV. “We know that it is not good for your personal development and for your brain,” he adds.

If the effects of children’s brain development screens are known, the Danish study highlights cardiovascular and high blood pressure risks.

“This study demonstrates two main things: the more the child looks at the tablets, the less it sleeps and the greater the cardiovascular risk when it reaches adulthood,” said BFMTV Philippe Abastado, cardiologist.

“This risk increases as tablets increase,” he adds. To limit risks, professionals recommend that they do not exhibit a child under 3 years. The use of screens is not recommended until 6 years.
