Bronchiolita: The European Medicines Agency approves a new preventive treatment

The Envelope, of the American Laboratory, will compete with the Beyfortus, a synthetic antibody injectable marketed by Sanofi in the immunization of babies against bronchiolitis.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended this Friday, September 19, the commercialization of a virus treatment responsible for bronchiolitis, developed by the American Laboratory MSD, this Friday, September 19.

“The Committee recommended the granting of a marketing authorization for Enflonsia (Classrovimab),” said the European regulator in a press release.

This is a treatment indicated in the prevention of the syncitial respiratory virus (VRS), “in newborns and babies,” the agency said.

Environment will compete with Beyfortus (Nersevimab), a synthetic antibody injectable by Sanofi in the immunization of babies against bronchiolitis, whose vaccination campaign began at the beginning of the month in France.

Processing approved in the United States last June

Enlambo is a preventive monoclonal antibody with prolonged action “designed to provide direct, fast and lasting protection for 5 months, or a typical RSV season,” said the site of the American Pharmaceutical Laboratory MSD (Merck Sharp & Dohme).

The treatment was approved in the United States and the United Arab Emirates in June 2025.

The VRS is a common and seasonal virus, which causes infections of the lower respiratory tract. Its symptoms are similar to those of a cold, “but they can also affect the lungs,” explains EMA.

Almost all children contract VRs infection before the age of two, the agency said. “If you cure more quickly, in some children, the VRs can cause serious diseases that can lead to hospitalization, even death,” the statement said.

A final decision of the European Commission is expected by the end of the year, MSD said in place.
