Its circulation is “particularly intense this winter.” Bronchiolitis is particularly affecting pediatric services this year. The highly contagious viral disease can indeed take serious forms and even lead to intensive care hospitalizations.
“In most cases, this infection is mild and heals spontaneously in a week or ten days,” explains Professor Romain Basmaci, a pediatrician at the Louis-Mourier de Colombes hospital (AP-HP) during François’s press conference Braun dedicated to the three epidemics of this season.
Wash your hands and avoid crowded places.
Some simple actions can still prevent the risk of infection. Therefore, it is highly recommended to wash your hands before touching a baby. Similarly, you should avoid kissing babies if you have a cold.
Visiting crowded places (public transport, shops, etc.) is also strongly discouraged: “it is necessary to avoid exposing the little ones to these high-risk places.” The environment in which the baby lives is also important: it is recommended to ventilate the rooms and avoid smoking in the presence of babies. Finally, objects that may come into contact with the infant should be cleaned, surfaces disinfected, and the sharing of toys and pacifiers between children should be avoided.
Wash the nose and divide the sick baby’s meals.
Zero risk does not exist, it is possible that your child is affected by bronchiolitis. Some symptoms allow us to know if he is indeed affected by this viral infection.
“The first signs are mostly a cold, then a little fever and a cough. A dry cough and then an oily one and finally malaise, shortness of breath,” explains Professor Romain Basmaci, “children will start to breathe too fast or too slow.” . , making a lot of effort to breathe and therefore tired.
The pediatrician adds that affected young children also have “difficulty eating.”
If there is no specific treatment, however, an adult may help a child breathe and eat. For this, it is advisable to wash the infant’s nose “as many times as necessary with saline solution” and between each meal. Finally, it is also possible to divide the toddler’s diet by giving him smaller amounts, but more often during the day.
