A slight increase. In France, vaccination is seeing a small recovery as New Year’s Eve approaches, but overall it is having little success, prompting the Health Minister last week to launch a “solemn appeal” for vaccination, particularly among the most vulnerable.
Pollution figures are rising again in France, but also among several of our neighbors. But how successful are recall campaigns having with our neighbors?
Success in England and Belgium
On the other side of the Channel, the English were in large numbers to receive their second reminder at the beginning of the school year. In mid-September, the number of booster shots began to increase, peaking on October 16.

The 7th December, plus an Anglais age over 50 years on six (62.8%) avait reçu une dose of rappel cet automne, contre un peu moins d’un quart (24.7%) trois mois plus early. Figures well above the European average.
Belgium is also one of the few European countries where the fourth dose is very successful. By December 5, more than 7 out of 10 Belgians aged 65 and over (71.23%) had received their second booster dose.
Antoine Flahault, an epidemiologist and director of the Institute for Global Health at the University of Geneva, believes, with BFMTV.com, that this success is explained by the implementation of a “vast national plan” of vaccination called “Ventilation”. “A sign that there is a concern regarding the control of the pandemic that may have fallen off less quickly than elsewhere,” he suggests.
In Portugal, almost a quarter of the population (24.5%) received two booster doses. A figure that is explained by a strong adherence to vaccination and a national plan to search for the most fragile audiences, according to Antoine Flahault.
Elsewhere, “pandemic fatigue”?
In the rest of Europe, the fourth dose is less successful. The epidemiologist believes that many countries are facing “pandemic fatigue” of their population.
Although the bivalent vaccines were launched on the market at the beginning of October, they do not seem to convince the inhabitants.
“Throughout Europe, communication has been very discreet since the start of the school year in September. European leaders have to deal with other crises and other problems that have left the pandemic in the background,” estimates the expert.
Decline in “willingness to get vaccinated” in Germany
Across the Rhine, having started from the same weak foundations as France in early September, the autumn campaign picked up slightly until late October. It is currently on a downward curve.
62.5% of Germans received at least one booster dose, but only 14.3% received their second booster dose.
“Unfortunately, the willingness to get vaccinated has decreased significantly in recent months,” acknowledged the Minister of Health, while recalling the usefulness of the vaccine in the fight against Covid, while the incidence rate rises again.
Among our Italian neighbors, injections are also down, after not experiencing high rates for the fourth dose.
If the rate of the first reminder is high, with 88% of people concerned, the second reminder convinces the crowd less and is reduced to just over a third of the target population (36.80%). This last figure concerns a fragile public, including people over 60, health professionals or even pregnant women, the only ones who can benefit from this 4th dose.
