Covid-19: Borne asks to wear a mask “in closed places” to “help” caregivers

As the end-of-year celebrations approached, the prime minister encouraged the French to respect barrier gestures and get vaccinated, while once again excluding the obligation to wear a mask.

The government continues to exclude the return to the mandatory mask in closed places and transport. As the holidays approach and in the midst of a “triple epidemic” in the territory (flu, Covid-19 and bronchiolitis), Elisabeth Borne admitted on Tuesday that the current situation is “difficult” in health establishments.

“All this puts a very strong pressure on health structures and health personnel,” he said on the sidelines of a trip to Seine-Saint-Denis.

Given the situation, the President of the Government intends to send once again “a message of responsibility to the citizens”. “We all have a part and a role to play,” he continues.

Elisabeth Borne thus calls for wearing the mask “as soon as you are in a closed space where there are many of you”. Respect for barrier gestures appears, according to her, as a gesture of “support and solidarity” towards caregivers “who are again in high demand.”

A “delay” in the vaccination campaign

Beyond the mask, the prime minister also encouraged the French to get vaccinated against the flu and make a reminder against Covid-19. “We have fallen behind in vaccination,” he believes, recalling that vaccination against Covid is free for everyone.

“When we have to meet with the family, we must respect the barrier gestures and vaccination, so we will help the caregivers,” he insists.
