The main union of general practitioners, MG France, announced this Sunday night that it had voted unanimously against the new consultation fees proposed by Social Security, which conditions this possible increase on the commitment to greater activity.
The six representative medical unions have until Tuesday to say whether or not they accept the new fee for consultations and other packages proposed by Social Security for five years.
“There was 98% participation and 100% said no to the signature. A unanimous negative vote” that “must have the character of making politicians think,” Agnès said during a press conference. Giannotti, president of MG France, the largest union of general practitioners.
Consultation at 26.50 euros
The Cnam (National Health Insurance Fund) proposal provides that all medical consultations will be revalued by 1.50 euros. For general practitioners, this unconditional revaluation would bring the basic consultation to 26.50 euros, compared to 25 euros in 2017.
Physicians who agreed to make “territorial commitments” (taking more patients, participating in shifts, exercising in medical deserts, etc.) would obtain a consultation fee higher than 30 euros, for example, for general practitioners.
But the question of the fee was “marginal” in the result of the vote, assured Agnès Giannotti, explaining that general practitioners suffer above all from “lack of recognition”.
“Saying we have to get involved means we don’t and that is absolutely unheard of by the profession,” he added.
“Proudly take responsibility for this decision”
With this rejection by the majority union of general practitioners, the draft agreement supported by the Government is about to fail and MG France already plans to return to the negotiating table only “within two years”, after the establishment of arbitration rules for Prepare a new fee schedule.
“MG France proudly takes responsibility for this decision and measures its seriousness, as it prohibits the holding of a medical convention for all specialties,” the union added in a press release.
The Ministry of Health invited a press conference dedicated to this issue on Monday at mid-morning.
