Covid-19: before the return of the mask in a high school in the Ardennes, a family takes their children out of school

Since the mask became mandatory again at this Sedan institute, the establishment has received “dozens of anonymous messages and phone calls.”

A decision that is not unanimous. At the Mabillon private college and high school in Sedan (Ardennes), the wearing of a mask has been re-imposed on 800 students and teachers since Monday, reports France 3 Grand Est. And rightly so, 56 positive cases were recently detected of Covid-19 in the establishment, according to Olivier Vallot, director, interviewed by the media.

“I contacted a technical adviser from National Education who confirmed that my establishment was in the fairly high average, at that moment I said to myself, either I react or I don’t react,” he says.

Instead of simply recommending that students and teaching staff wear the mask, Olivier Vallot makes the decision to make it mandatory to “slow down the rate of positive cases and protect everyone”.

“I really didn’t see why some would be masked and some wouldn’t,” says the director.

“Anonymous Phone Calls”

Although this precautionary measure was understood by most of the families, one of them decided to take their children out of school.

“Since the pandemic began they are against everything, anti-everything and in particular anti-mask. I told them they were conspiracy theorists, which they refute, but this family relies on conspiracy networks,” specifies the rector, still with France 3.

And since the return of the mask, this family and their networks have been harassing the establishment, sending “dozens of anonymous messages and phone calls,” still according to him.

However, this measure “is not illegal”, insists Olivier Vallot. In fact, if National Education does not currently request a particular protocol in schools, the ministry specifies on its website that “the measures to be taken require taking into account the specific context of each school or establishment.”
