A slight epidemic recovery that does not seem to affect the hospital at the moment. The week of April 3-9, the Covid-19 test positivity rate was 18.9%, up from 17.7% the week before, according to the weekly report by Public Health France, (SPF) Posted this Thursday. This increase is situated in a context in which the screening rate is decreasing, according to this public body under the Ministry of Health.
SPF noted a “moderate” decrease in the incidence rate (81 new positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants compared to 84 the previous week), except abroad in France where it was “increasing in several regions, with levels that remain low”.
Nationwide, the number of emergency room visits and new hospitalizations were declining. New hospitalizations were even at “a very low level” in 2020, down from 2,535 the week before.
Vaccination is still needed
However, Public Health France recalls that “due to the insufficient level of vaccine boosters and the persistent circulation of SARS-CoV-2, vaccination against COVID-19 in specific individuals remains necessary”.
As of April 10, 2023, only 23.5% of people ages 60 to 79 and 26.2% of people 80 and older had received an adequate booster for the Omicron variant, according to the SPF bulletin.
“Adherence to barrier gestures and other recommended measures is still recommended, especially in case of symptoms or positive test to protect vulnerable people,” the organization adds.
