All regions of mainland France have already emerged from the seasonal flu epidemic, which is particularly long this year, but continues abroad in Guadeloupe and Martinique, the public health agency summarized on Wednesday.
“Influenza activity (has gone down) in almost all regions,” Public Health France says in a weekly report.
“Post-epidemic” phase
The only metropolitan region still affected by the epidemic last week, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, has now left this state.
However, there the situation has not returned to normal, as in most of the territory, with the largest of the regions still in the “post-epidemic” phase.
Abroad, Guadeloupe and Martinique, moreover, are still affected by the epidemic.
A long epidemic period
The seasonal flu epidemic started early this season and therefore lasted a particularly long time. Although it did not reach the peaks of the worst years, it was added to those of Covid and, in infants, bronchiolitis.
It was particularly long due to the rise in early 2023 of another strain of the virus, called type B.
