Vaccination “necessary” for the most fragile
The vaccination of these people “is still necessary” given the still “active” circulation of Covid-19 and the “insufficient level of vaccination reminders”, according to the DGS. It also indicates that if booster vaccination is no longer recommended for the non-target public of this campaign, anyone who wishes to receive a dose “will be able to benefit from it for free.”
With this new campaign, the DGS intends to “maintain a sufficient level of vaccine protection to reduce the appearance of severe forms of Covid-19, and the risk of hospitalization and death”, although the virus surveillance indicators “remain at very high levels.” low” in recent weeks.
The time to observe between each injection is a minimum of six months, “regardless of the patient’s situation,” he specifies. These vaccination reminders can be carried out directly in nursing homes, health facilities, pharmacies or even with doctors and nurses.
A new campaign in autumn
In six months, a new vaccination campaign “on the model of influenza vaccination” will be organized.
“In anticipation of the circulation of Covid-19 during the autumn-winter period, taking into account the reduction of the protection of the vaccine over time, as well as the additional protection provided by a booster dose, a booster campaign will be organized next autumn-winter, at the same time as the anti-flu campaign”, announces the DGS.
The institution also indicates that the High Authority for Health no longer recommends primary vaccination to people who are not at risk of severe forms, although it will continue to be possible for anyone who expresses the request.
