Cabinet again proposes to increase the value of overtime from 120 hours

The government this Wednesday again proposed to the social partners, in the context of the agreement on income and competitiveness, to increase the value of overtime from 120 hours, according to the proposal to which Lusa had access.

The measure had already been discussed in the context of the labor changes foreseen in the Decent Work Agenda, but in May the government withdrew the measure from this labor package and announced that it would be included in the medium-term agreement to improve incomes, wages and Competitiveness, presented this afternoon during the social dialogue.

In the document presented on Wednesday, the government is recuperating the previous proposal to increase overtime compensation from 120 hours per year.

According to it, the value goes from 25% to 50% in the first hour or fraction thereof, from 37.5% to 75% per hour or next fraction, on a working day, and from 50% to 100% for every hour or fraction , on a compulsory or additional weekly rest day, or on a public holiday.

In May, Labor, Solidarity and Social Security Minister Ana Mendes Godinho said during the Social Dialogue that the appreciation of overtime would finally be discussed under the income deal, which the government plans to conclude in May. October, and not from the Decent Work Agenda, a package of labor amendments that is now in the House of Representatives.

The increase in the value of overtime had already been approved by the Council of Ministers in October 2021 and at the time provoked criticism from employers’ federations, who suspended their attendance at the Social Dialogue meetings, indicating that this was one of the measures that had not been implemented. discussed with the partners, but that was part of the negotiations in parliament to make the national budget viable for 2022, which ultimately failed.
