The PSD parliamentary group clarified this Monday that deputy Joaquim Pinto Moreira, who had been deprived of political confidence, expresses the party’s position “neither in plenary nor in committees” of the Assembly of the Republic.
The clarification from the Social Democratic bench sent to the media follows news from the online newspaper Observador, which says that the deputy has returned to integrate the permanent parliamentary committees he held before suspending him (at the time , in coordination with the party’s executive after he was made a defendant in Operation Vortex): Defense, as a permanent member, and Saúde, as a deputy.
“All PSD deputies are, under the terms of the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure, assigned to parliamentary committees. Deputy Pinto Moreira is part of committees in which previously the deputy whose seat he held participated,” reads the statement of the Socialist Party. democratic parliamentary group.
The same note indicates that, “as previously explained by the president of the PSD, the withdrawal of political confidence means that Member Pinto Moreira does not express the political position of the PSD, neither in plenary nor in committees, so there was no change in this domain”.
The deputy of the PSD, Joaquim Pinto Moreira, resumed his mandate on May 29, after being accused in the context of Operation Vortex, which is related to real estate projects and the respective licenses in the Espinho Chamber, which he led.
On the same day, the president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, indicated that the party had decided to withdraw political confidence in Pinto Moreira, but that the parliamentarian could continue to be part of the social-democratic bank “if he had the will” . , emphasizing that the mandate of deputy has an individual component in which the party cannot interfere.
Montenegro justified the decision by saying that the resumption of the mandate should have been coordinated with the party’s leadership – just as the suspension had been, so the deputy “will no longer express the social democratic bench’s political position”.
Days earlier, when Pinto Moreira’s intention to resume his term had become known, the PSD leadership claimed to be surprised and denied any previous dealings with the former mayor of Espinho, one of Luís Montenegro’s strongmen. campaign and who became Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Bench and Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee.
In recent weeks, since he resumed his mandate and lost the political confidence of the PSD leadership, Deputy Joaquim Pinto Moreira has attended plenary sittings in the last row – as usual after news of Operation Vortex led him to resign as vice president of the PSD. the bank –, have not taken part in the only meeting of the parliamentary group that has taken place since then.
