“This sanction is not normal”: Yannick Jadot believes that Julien Bayou should not have resigned

If the former presidential candidate considers that the withdrawal of Julien Bayou was necessary, he judges that it was not necessary to resign in the absence of filing a complaint and despite the fact that the former national secretary of the Greens has not yet been heard by the unit of group listening.

A withdrawal yes, a sanction, a resignation [ou] an exclusion”, no. Guest of BFMTV-RMC, Yannick Jadot spoke about the case of Julien Bayou, accused of psychological violence by his former partner. According to the former presidential candidate, the resignation of his colleague from his positions as national secretary of the EELV and co-president of the environmental group in the Assembly, appears as a “sanction”, a sanction that, he says, is not “normal”.

“Since the cell has not returned its work, we do not have to sanction”, due to the lack of “filing a complaint” and although the accused “could not defend himself”, explained Yannick Jadot.

According to him, there may be “a withdrawal”, but this should not be characterized by a “resignation” or an “exclusion”. Last Sunday, Yannick Jadot had asked Julien Bayou to withdraw from his duties as national secretary due to the “serenity of the investigation” carried out by the listening cell on the party’s sexual and male violence.

“Deontology”

This Monday, Julien Bayou announced that he was resigning from his position as national secretary of Europe Ecology of the Greens (EELV) and co-chair of ecologists in the National Assembly. The deputy from Paris had then evoked an “unsustainable situation”, while he regretted being “accused of acts that [lui] are not presented, of which [s]The accusers say they are not criminally reprehensible.”

While waiting to hear more, Yannick Jadot wants us to “let the party’s listening cell do its job.” Certainly, Julien Bayou has not yet been heard, but “at the beginning of the listening cells […] the potentially incriminated person is the last to be heard.”

The MEP also defended the existence of these internal bodies, judging that “we cannot be satisfied with our justice system”, when there are “95,000 rapes a year” and only “800 convictions”.

“Political parties have a special responsibility, we need a deontology [sur ce sujet]“, advanced.

Do not give the impression that “ecology is controversial”

However, the Julien Bayou case comes at a bad time for environmentalists. They would like to be heard on other issues while the summer has not ceased to remind us how topical global warming was. Yannick Jadot regrets “the controversies”.

According to the elected official, “they serve as a warning, but when we are so right, when we are ready […] to bring the whole society closer, we must not give the impression that ecology is controversy, division”.
