In total there are five motions for resolutions, all with Health in the background, proposing “urgent and necessary action”. The goal, says the PSD, is “to address the failure of the socialist government’s health policies”. This package of measures is part of a series of health-related initiatives being promoted by the PSD in the coming week, which will begin with a permanent political committee dedicated to health. It will conclude on Thursday with a potestative debate.
The motions for resolutions tabled focus on five main areas: strengthening the SNS; the allocation of a general practitioner to all Portuguese; the reduction of waiting times for operations, consultations and examinations; better access to permanent and palliative care; and finally, improving access to medicines.
In the document to which DN had access, the Social Democrats argue that in the case of strengthening the SNS it is necessary to, for example, “allocate all non-alcoholic beverage tax revenues and 3% of tobacco tax proceeds to health promotion and disease preventionThe measure, the PSD faction predicts, will have a turnover of about 100 million euros. A bet on the digitization of the health sector is also defended.
On the other hand, in the case of access to medicines, the PSD requests the granting of a “financial contribution of up to 100% in the part borne by the user in a situation of proven economic insufficiency”.
In addition, the PSD still defends the creation of “a further 5500 beds in the integrated long-term care network, by 2026″among other measures in this area.
For example, with regard to reducing the waiting time, the PSD faction asks to celebrate’contracts with private, social and professional sector entities for independent work to perform consultations, exams or surgeries, when time is over”.
Finally, the Social Democrats also ask, for example, that parliament recommend that the government promise to appoint a general practitioner and, on the other hand, that “payment to health professionals related to achievements and health gains” is promoted.
