Bloco de Esquerda proposes to index wages to inflation

Mariana Mortágua explained that the “hypocrisy” of António Costa, which he referred to hours earlier, lies in the “ease of criticizing Mrs. [Christine] Lagarde,” while at the same time “not raising wages” and emphasizing that this is “the only solution for people not to become impoverished,” he said in statements to the Lusa agency.

The leader of the bloc also stressed during a visit to the stock exchange of São João, in the capital of Alto Alentejo, that the Prime Minister’s words were uttered “in Brussels, where wages are indexed to inflation and inflation does not just rise .” of it”.

“One of the ways to solve this is to raise wages [indexados] to inflation. But also if we raise wages [indexados] compared to inflation, inflation in homes and interest rates is much higher,” said Mariana Mortágua.

Therefore, he continued, “the only way to control this is to limit rents”.

“This means imposing rent ceilings in different cities, in different locations and forcing banks to renegotiate all credits, but at their expense and with a reduction in their profits, rather than using taxpayers’ money he suggested.

Still on the words of Christine Lagarde, this week, at the Forum of Central Banks, in Sintra, Mariana Mortágua believed that they “deserve the greatest rejection” and that the President of the European Central Bank (ECB) “does not respect had for the Portuguese”.

“It was disrespectful to everyone who works and despite working they cannot afford a house because the ECB looked the other way as house prices have risen over the last 10 years. It has tarnished the dignity of all those who work and whose salary is not enough to live,” he noted.
