This information was confirmed to the Lusa office by a source of the presidency of the republic, who said that the head of state has canceled these trips outside Lisbon as a precaution, preserving the audiences he had planned at the palace of Belém.

On Friday, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa planned to travel to Porto for an initiative that is part of the commemorations of the centenary of Guerra Junqueiro’s death and to Aveiro for the Science Meeting 2023.

On Wednesday, the head of state fainted at the end of a visit to the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in the municipality of Almada, Setúbal district, and spent four hours at the Hospital de Santa Cruz, in the municipality of Oeiras, district Lisbon, where he was taken by ambulance around 4 p.m.

After conducting tests, he was released from the hospital and left the hospital on foot at 8 p.m.

Speaking to journalists, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa reported on leaving the Santa Cruz Hospital that he had a period similar to that of June 2018 in Braga, “a sudden drop in tension, the so-called vagal phenomenon”, to which he may have contributed “drink a hot muscatel”, without lunch, on a hot day.

The head of state said that he did not stay in the hospital because the analyzes were “clearly positive” and left no doubt, but that he had a device with him until Thursday morning to record the evolution of blood pressure.
